Program Description:
REL151/SCSA196: Religions of Africa

AOI: Global and Cultural Understanding (pending)
This class serves both as an introduction to African religions and a critical assessment of the categories of African religion and religion. Students will learn about traditional African religions as well as African Christianity and African Islam. Students will also reflect on critical questions of scholarship including purity and hybridity, the normativity of religion and religions, and colonial and post-colonial constructions of religion in general and African religion in particular.
